Main Assault Platform by shinsengumi77 Main Assault Platform by shinsengumi77
So I did this because I wanted to start getting into the other mechanical designs for "dream."

This is one of the Federation's ten main assault support platforms. It functions at any range, but it operates at maximum combat efficiency within 30 miles of any engagement.

It boasts some of the most devastating firepower ever seen, second only to the weapons satellites which were outlawed earlier in the conflict. Generally these platforms patrol border areas, and occasionally provide direct support in battle. This can take the form of long-range shelling, missile support, or strategic command. The wolves utilize them exclusively for their large blackout payloads -special weapons once used only for scenarios such as scouting, retreat, defection and economic interference, and now used in a type of assault that the Wolves specialize in.

Each main assault platform carries a platoon of near-wolves class mechs specifically for battle support.

In addition to the raw offensive power, main assault platforms are heavily armored, and employ an orbital defense barrier linked directly to the core respiratory system (see below.) The nine plates attached to the top spine break off and independently orbit the control core at the base of the spine. Each one is controlled by an autonomous defensive system so sensitive that the nine defend up to 75% efficiency under the heaviest of fire, and up to 95% under normal circumstances.

It is generally considered almost impossible to destroy a main battle platform head-on with standard tactics.

Each one is also outfitted with extensive Broad-spectrum countermeasures and defensive gun and missile emplacements.

Using this platform as an example, I wanted to also describe some of the systems found in the mecha of "Dream" (which are also found to some extent in many aspects of civilian life as well.)

The massive weight is offset up to 90% (75% in mechs) utilizing two of the same systems also found within any third generation cored mech. The first relies on precisely monitoring and controlling the polarity of certain metals built directly into the frame of the mecha, as well as in one or more solid cores; these metals are set to a degree of near-orbit in relation to the planet's solid core using extremely powerful computers and properly regulated energy.

This allows for the construction and continued use of machines and buildings far larger than those found on Earth with the technology that was developed in the past, when such sizes would have had structures collapsed onto themselves due to the sheer weight.

The second system (core respiratory system) utilizes a series of plasma circulation channels that act similar to the hydraulics found in animals such as spiders -this system supplements the mechanical joints of any mech and increases the speed and power of third generation mechs up to ten times that of their predecessors. In the assault platform, the plasma channels provide direct power for mobility and the long range cannon.

What do you think? More stuff like this? ^^;

Yes, you are right about that. To make your own comic/story you have to create an entire world. "oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try" [I'm just being silly here.] :lol:

Indeed, to make the world in your story convincing enough, you have to come up with lots of stuff, to structure a society from beginning to end. Just thinking about it gave me a headache. haha.
Well, I'm curious to know more about your world. :D

Yeah, it can get pretty tiring sometimes. ^^;

There's always more to develop; the hardest part is working on things that will actually be relevant to the story and leaving out the extra details that won't be needed at all. :nuu:

You are absolutely right!!
Even though sometimes part of the back-story is mostly for the writer, you still have to write all that. :crying:
My goodness, I still haven't finished reading your comic. So many pages! but i guess it's fine cuz that way I still have something to read for a few more days. lol. :D

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! :D Yes several of these will appear in "Dream" over time. Each one is slightly different, so they'll be fun to draw.

Ha ha yeah AC is one of my favs, so I'm not surprised that it would remind you of it. I didn't realize it when I drew it, but it definitely feels like an Arms Fort from AC4A, huh? ^^;

lol thanks! :D If one could somehow survive the long and mid-range fire it lays down the best way would be to get in close, but it has various close-range defensive turrets and missile emplacements, as well as that platoon of top-class units guarding it, so this would be extremely difficult as well. One would need a very large force to consider taking a platform of this size on, as it would be almost like assaulting a high-profile base.

The only sure-fire way would be to use the weapons satellites, but both sides have agreed to outlaw their use and have taken steps to see that they will never be used again.

If there was ever a need to destroy one of these platforms, the Wolves would stand the best chance.

I was thinking satellites, too, but of course you had stated they were outlawed.

Here are some other ideas:

-Land mines. =3

-Simultaneous artillery strike: 10+ cannons have to land their rounds simultaneously on the target in order to outnumber the floating shields. Just how much damage can those shields take, anyway?

-Stealth bomber >> carpet bombing.

Also, have you been playing ACV? I'm the teamleader for MAHQ on ps3, but I can't get any of my 20 members to log in.... I just had an awful morning on the game. =(

Yes, the satellites would be able to level a platform of this size in a matter of seconds.

Land mines might have been effective if the range of the platforms wasn't so broad. Additionally, most craft have extensive sensory abilities and would be able to detect and destroy land mines -the use of mines in general lessened as technological ability increased, just as tanks and gunships slowly became inferior and useless compared to the second and third generation mechs that were developed. Mines are still used within closer proximity to some bases, but not all.

The artillery strike is a given in battle anyway, as long as the base under assault is large enough to support a decent amount of defensive weaponry. The shields defend primarily against missiles and long range rockets, not heavy artillery -the platform's own armor is extremely thick and would be able to withstand a heavy assault. Most artillery located on bases is for close-range defense to take out mechanized infantry, which is more of an immediate threat to a base, as the assault platforms serve only to support the mecha moving in to gain control.

Stealth technology is severely limited in this world, because no one utilizes radar. The sensory technology in "Dream" is almost infallible -except when blackout technology is used, which completely blocks out all sensors and severely hampers communication, eliminating any chance of support, targeting, mapping, etc. Long-range bombers fell out of use with the weapons satellites, as the types of weaponry allowed for use in battle was severely limited in a mutual agreement from both sides. Even the assault platform only utilizes certain types of weapons allowed by the agreement, which are less destructive in nature and function at closer ranges (though the platform itself functions at any range.)

I haven't gotten V yet :nuu: but hopefully that will change soon. I have been trying to be patient for it, but man is it hard...^^; I heard there isn't a large population online with the regional limitations, but hopefully that will change over time. Sorry to hear that you're having troubles with it so far. Does your team have a decent sized territory to defend?

If the platform can survive heavy artillery, then what sort of chance does a mech stand exactly, since you say this is the best method? (Sorry, I'm a little unfamiliar with the performance/technology of your works.) I don't see how a mech's weaponry can outperform an artillery cannon, especially considering the fact that since you have giant mechs, you could easily scale up your artillery cannon to that same size or bigger. It's a situation I've thought a lot about lately.

In regards to V, we only have like 5 little areas right now. (Used to be more until they were attacked and destroyed.) I'm very unwilling to do a defense mission unless I have more of my teammates with me, and it's usually just me by myself. Trying to defend alone, you may as well just hand it over, and mercenaries are too unreliable.

Sorry about all the long questions, lol.

Shelling from far away does do damage, but as I said, most base artillery is focused on destroying mecha closing in, and the damage is not fatal. The platform does have its weak points. If a unit is skilled enough (or just has superior numbers) to get in close and take out the support mecha, there are plenty of points to attack that aren't heavily armored. The defensive batteries and missile pods themselves, as well as the ports containing small thrusters, for one thing. The platform is also enormously vulnerable to blackout tactics, like any other installation -but the Faction does not have any unit that excels in them.

Mecha have a wide array of powerful weapons themselves, so they aren't to be discounted, even against these monsters.

Wow you're taking on mission alone against other teams? Pretty ballsy! :D I'd love to join you in your struggle, but alas! I don't know when I'll get the game! :nuu: Mercenaries are unreliable because they only show up when they feel like it? Or is there something else?

And no problem, talking about mecha stuff is never a problem with me! :D

Well first of all, many of the mercs are usually spies for the enemy team. >_>; They will give information to their actual teammates, or even attack you while playing on your side. (I haven't had one attack me yet though.)

Then, a lot of them are very inexperienced in fighting ACs, or you can't enough of them to form a full team.

Mercs also cannot talk into their headsets, but they can listen to you. I don't know why they chose to gimp the communication with you and your mercenaries.

The way mercs work is that they go register as a merc, and they wait in a lobby. When someone in a mission hires a merc, they can either randomly select a merc from the pool, or view the pool and choose a specific one. The merc can confirm or deny the request.

Basically, a pretty bad situation if you don't have active team members.

I heard about the lack of efficient communication; can't figure out why they did it that way. Also, I didn't know they could attack you while they're on your team -I figured the FCS wouldn't be able to get a lock on team member. The spying thing is understandable though; I'm sure there are mercs who unofficially work exclusively for one team of another.

Actually, it's possible the the communication was hampered for mercs so they cannot inform the other team about your tactics, since they can hear what you're doing. That's all I can come up with.

You said that you had about 20 members on your team, but they are mostly offline; have you been working without an operator as well?
