Sniper Mech by shinsengumi77 Sniper Mech by shinsengumi77
Did this pic because I said I'd do an Armored Core-style sniper mech for :iconaxonn5:'s Birthday. Sorry for the simple background.

I'm fairly pleased with the way if turned out. :dummy:

No real basis from the actual series; I just used the concept of a cored mech with interchangeable parts (which look like all the mechs I draw anyway) and tinkered around a bit. It's left and right arms are different parts, to clarify.

Its armaments include:

High-explosive assault harpoon, reinforced shotgun, jammer, tactical knife, internal components (grenades, mines, flares and ECM), and of course the high-capacity and rapid-fire sniper rifle.

I love the sense of scale. And the mech's design is keen!

Your emblem has Genobee's AC's head on it, or was it something from one of your previous ACs? Either way, it looks awesome.

Actually it's a crudely drawn CHD-SKYEYE from AC3...I can't remember if Genobee's actually looks the same or is just very similar, but the name of the part is different in Nexus. ^^; The person I did the piece for asked for it specifically. :)

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it! :dummy:

Your welcome. But Genobee has a similar head part in Nexus. The reason why I don't consider Dual Face in Last Raven is because the Pilot isn't as good as Genobee.

lol that's pretty much what I said...^^; Similar part, but I think it's under a different part name in Nexus.

Meh, Dual Face and genobee are both pansies. :D The only half-decent pilot in LR is Zinaida, IMHO, and only in the last mission, though her tactics are a bit redundant.

Ah I see. Yeah, I had to play through the game a ton of times before I figured out how to finally unlock her mission path. It's the most difficult, imho. But it's all in good fun. :D

Wow
When this at your page i thought of "armored core"
Clicked and went in, you mentioned armored core xd.

I guess what makes it noticeable is the shoulder weapons =).
Anyways, really badass mech there.

lol thanks! :D Yeah I wanted to incorporate the idea of shoulder weapons from 4 and 4A (extensions in old games) and the shoulder-carried guns from 5. Glad it worked out! :dummy:

Yes, I love the old designs (though the new ones are also awesome...^^;) -especially the proportions. Though the ability to carry the shotgun off the shoulder was inspired by the feature in ACV. :D

The emblem was requested to be based off of AC3, too. :dummy:

tl;dr inbound, brace for critique

For a mech that is on recon + fire support (stand-off variety), the shotgun looks out of place.

If you decide to keep the shotgun, then it won't look travel light (shotguns are heavy!) -- you'll have to lose the missile and slap the SpecOps-sniper hybrid label on this beauty. Otherwise, replace it with an SMG (rifle caliber optional) -- it's less powerful but it serves very well in fire suppression and CQB.

You don't have to change the image at all, though.

-- end tl;dr

I like what I see, regardless.

Preparing to engage.

lol Have you ever played an AC game? (I only ask since this was an AC themed piece) Wide varieties of weaponry are often carried, and usually the main distinction between mech types is weight and mobility.

The description doesn't mention anything about recon, and just because it's a sniper doesn't mean he's on support -most AC sorties are solo affairs, so it's more like he's prepared for both long and close-range combat, depending on enemy characteristics -and it's not unusual to discard weapons during combat. I also don't really care much for labels.

My guess is that you're approaching this from some other context, but for AC (and let's be honest anime and games in general) this is not a strange configuration. ^^;

Target destruction verified. Now returning to normal mode.

Yes, I understand. Armored Core, in that context, isn't too distant from Battletech/Mechwarrior. I won't contest.

So it's just me referring from a more mundane, real-life point of view. Strategy games make an exception, though, in favor of balance. Implementing a beauty like this means it's gotta be relatively low-rate production, or else you'll be risking "OP" complaints from Customer Services. Trivium for you. ;P

low-rate initial production and OP: (unfairly) overpowered -- a gamer's slang.

Ah, gotcha. lol All AC's are unfairly overpowered, then. Since the beginning this type of setup with various armaments (of exceedingly high power) has been widely used. And now it's even worse; considering the UW's in ACV for instance, with the power to destroy several units with even a single strike, this mech is rather mild in destructive capability. :dummy:

That being said, when you apply real-world sensibility to fictional elements it's not hard to find issue with them at all. Even the idea of a mech being combat-functional is ludicrous with current technology. So why try to perform any realistic analysis at all? ;P

Because the mech's human-like.

So a machine that looks human-like should be bound by capabilities similar to those of a human? In that case then every mech that's ever existed in fiction has major problems. With that sort of logic I can say something like "Jake from Adventure time shouldn't be all stretchy and magical because he is a dog."

Just saying. :iconimhappyplz:

lol Glad you like it. No need to repay -it was a birthday thing, right? :D

The characters on it say "Shin Murakumo" in Kanji (Chinese characters used by Japan) which reads "New Gathering of Clouds" -it's a throwback from the first few Ac games. Murakumo was the largest corporation in the original games. ;P

They could technically be used either way, but they are read differently depending on which language you are using. In Japanese they say Murakumo. In Chinese it will sound different, and possibly mean something slightly different as well. Japan uses 3 different systems of writing -Hiragana (a more rounded style to use for Japanese terms), Katakana (an angular style for use with foreign words and for emphasis) and Kanji, which are chinese characters Japan has made use of for complete words.

lol I'm at work right now so I can't look at it, but I'll check it out later. ;P
